flaking home...

molting bricks shedding paint,
aged honey wind
caressing forgotten cheek bones
known as windowpanes,
caving in eyelids--
or roof corners...
giant mouth gaping open--
revealing musty outdated innards,
welcoming spiders, mosquitoes, and neighbors...

a brittle smile--
showing blinds bent from batting paws
and faded blue curtains framing
shutters picked apart--
82 year-old eyelashes...
peeling bananas
or posters off of walls
unexposed to rays of hope.

the lives of five unthinking fools,
caught in the dream
of waking never alone--
exposed, and left
forlorn.
